Description
The PROBIOPS project is a comprehensive, six-wave, two-sample longitudinal study investigating the associations between pornography use during adolescence and a range of sexuality-related outcomes. Conducted over a three-year period (2015–2018), the study employed both school-based and online surveys targeting high school students in Croatia, aged 15–16 at the study’s onset.
This presentation offers an overview and critical evaluation of the study’s design, methodology, and key findings. Methodologically, the PROBIOPS project represents a significant advancement over previous longitudinal research in this domain, though certain limitations remain and are discussed.
Drawing on data published in over 30 international peer-reviewed articles, the findings suggest that pornography use is neither a predominantly harmful nor beneficial influence in the sexual socialization of most adolescents. Rather, its role appears to be nuanced and context-dependent, underscoring the importance of considering individual and environmental factors in adolescent sexual development.
